The blaze originated at an e-scooter charging point located adjacent to the popular New Town Central Mall, a usually bustling area. The incident occurred sometime this evening, prompting immediate calls to emergency services.
The sight of smoke and the proximity of the fire to the large shopping mall quickly led to a sense of panic among shoppers, mall staff, and local residents. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames near the charging station, raising concerns about potential spread, although the fire appears to be currently contained to the immediate vicinity of the charging point.
The West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services were promptly informed following the outbreak. Demonstrating a swift response, the department dispatched firefighting units to the scene without delay. Currently, two fire engines are actively engaged at the location, tackling the blaze.
